Sherwin J. Isenberg, MD
Dr. Isenberg, the Lorraine and David Gerber Professor of Ophthalmology at the Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, served as Vice-Chairman of the UCLA Department of Ophthalmology and Jules Stein Eye Institute. His research has concentrated on development of the eye in infants, strabismus, and ways to prevent childhood blindness, such as development of the conjunctival blood gas monitor for newborns. With Dr. Leonard Apt, he pioneered the use of aseptic eye drops for prevention and treatment of potential blindness from infections. He has published more than 200 research papers, book chapters and the book “The Eye in Infancy”. He was Editor-in-Chief of J AAPOS. He served as President of the Costenbader Society and of AAPOS and co-founded the International Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Council. He has received awards including the Hampton Roy Award for prevention and cure of worldwide blindness from the World Eye Foundation, the Heed Foundation Award, and the Transforming Lives Award from CRE Outreach.
