Sharon F. Freedman, MD
Dr. Freedman, Professor of Ophthalmology and Pediatrics at the Duke University Medical Center in Durham NC, was President of the AAPOS, and Secretary of Program for AAPOS. She earned her Lifetime Achievement Award from AAPOS in 2016, and Senior Honor Award from the AAO in 2009, among many other awards and honors. She has published over 250 scholarly peer-reviewed articles and chapters on a variety of topics related to pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. She regularly lectures and leads workshops at AAPOS and AAO, and has lectured around the country and internationally. Dr. Freedman is well known for her devotion to patient care, clinical research, and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows, as well as visiting scholars from other states and countries. Her motto is simple – “treat the patient (or trainee) the way you would like to be treated” – it works every time!
