Dr. Kivlin had an academic career in pediatric ophthalmology with particular interest in genetic eye disease and child abuse. She was Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Utah and Professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She served as Program Chairman for AAPOS and initiated the online annual meeting abstract application and evaluation process. She was AAPOS President in 2001-2002. She received the Honor Award and Senior Honor Award from AAPOS and the AAO, and the Véronneau-Troutman Recognition Award from Women in Ophthalmology for her contributions toward advancing the equality of women in ophthalmology. She was elected to the American Ophthalmological Society and was active in many professional organizations including the American Academy of Pediatrics, and served as an examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology. She finished as Director of Continuing Medical Education, an interesting challenge.
